Synopsis

Based on a bestseller and nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Foreign Language Film, sweeping, weepy Dutch drama Twin Sisters tells the epic tale of two sisters separated as children who find each other, only to be separated again by WWII. Beautifully shot across Luxembourg and the Netherlands, this moving period piece features an outstanding cast who create a genuinely emotional experience.

After the death of their parents, inseparable twin sisters Anna and Lotte are cruelly separated at the age of six. Anna remains in Germany, growing up in harsh circumstances on her uncle and aunt’s farm, while the sickly Lotte is given a loving home in the Netherlands by wealthy distant relations. In the years following their separation, the girls try desperately to get in touch with one another. Briefly reunited years later as young women, it becomes apparent that they have led very different lives. When WWII breaks out, the gap widens further as the sisters find themselves on opposing sides.
