Synopsis
Following the success of 2005’s Manual Of Love, director Giovanni Veronesi presents this star-studded sequel which opened the 2007 Italian Film Festival in Sydney.
Starring Monica Bellucci and a host of familiar and good-looking Italian actors, Manual Of Love 2 is a heart-warming and comical anthology of four interconnected tales of love and other such calamities. The film is chronicled by Dj Fulvio of radio 105 who encourages callers to ring in with their tempered tales of love and loss. As the listener’s phone in with their love woes, the film traverses parallel romantic chapters of forbidden love, infertility, gay marriage and extra marital affairs.
Manual Of Love 2 demonstrates that love is glorious, enlightening and magical, but it can also cause pain. Firstly, Riccardo Scamarcio steams up the screen with Monica Bellucci who plays both his physiotherapist and temptress after a car accident leaves him temporarily disabled. The second chapter maps out the trials of Franco and hormonally hopped-up Manuela who fly to Spain for fertility treatment, then in chapter three, meet Filippo and Fosco as they prepare for their gay wedding and long to be accepted by Filippo’s father. Finally, Italian veteran actor Carlo Verdone plays Ernesto who, bored with his middle-aged hum-drum life, seeks out the company of a beautiful young girl who gives him a run for his money.
