Synopsis

A documentary that traverses the history of an Italian icon, the Vespa, since its conception post WWII. This charming and humorous account concurrently examines the vibrancy of European and Italian cultures of the last sixty years. Forever Vespa is a fresh and eye-opening feature that combines archival footage, exclusive interviews with designers, enthusiasts and fans worldwide in order to paint the picture of the love affair a country has with its unique, suave and sexy piece of machinery.

Not unlike the VW and its German conception after WWII, the Vespa rose out of the dust from the imagination of a serial inventor who had a love for both the practical and beautiful. Interviews with his grand-daughters and footage of his early concepts of the Vespa takes the audience back to the origins of this Italian symbol of freedom. Forever Vespa notes how the Vespa arrived on the scene at a time in Italy when people needed cheap and practical transport as they were rebuilding their lives and looking toward a brighter future. As the Vespa’s popularity grew with clever marketing, it became the ultimate accessory for hip and happening youngsters in the ‘60s and collectors the world round began to take interest. Archival footage, amusing anecdotes and interviews with collectors gives a loving and histrionic portrayal of this much loved vehicle.
