The WORLD MOVIES Channel Radar has been switched on and is sweeping the world’s film vaults for hidden cinematic gems, underground cuts and innovative eye candy.
The Radar: Located. Chosen. Screened. This revealing documentary details the attempts of renowned French director Henri-Georges Clouzot in the early 1960s to film his long-planned project Inferno, a study of jealousy starring Romy Schneider and Serge Reggiani.
Reconstructed from recently discovered test footage, interviews with film crew and on-set observers and new scenes with actors Jacques Gamblin as Marcel and Berenice Bejo as Odette performing from the original script, Henri-Georges Clouzot’s Inferno attempts to imagine what the original Inferno might have been if Clouzot had not lost complete control of his potential masterpiece.
Backed with an unlimited budget from American producers Columbia, Clouzot set forth to create potentially one of the greatest films ever made, based on the sonic and visual art of the period. Production started to unravel when Clouzot extended delays in the shooting with his indecisiveness and temper, resulting in actor Serge Reggiani walking off set and Clouzot’s ultimate heart attack. Never reaching fruition, this innovative speculation of what may have been chronicles Clouzot’s road to virtual madness by his passion for film, his commitment to his art knowing no bounds and highly destructive.
