Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen stars as Ip Man in the first cinematic rendition of the eponymous Wing Chun martial arts grandmaster, renowned for teaching Bruce Lee the secrets of the art he became famous for. Set during the second Sino-Japanese War, the great master Ip Man finds his life shattered when the Japanese roll into his city and take over his home.
Fo Shan China is a bustling city with its own Martial Arts street, where countless of martial arts schools fuel the craze of kung fu. With each new school, the master will pay his respects to Ip Man and to challenge him to a duel. Ip will take them on behind closed doors, so as to not damage his opponent’s reputation nor embarrass them in public. After being taken over by the Japanese, Ip Man begins to battle Japanese martial artists in jam-packed exhilarating action scenes, while teaching city factory workers how to defend themselves against their oppressors. Garnered a plethora of Asian film festival awards.
