The most expensive Greek production made to date is the epic tale of an uncompromising artist and fighter for freedom Domenicos Theotocopoulos, known to the world as 'El Greco'.
Passengers at a large Bangkok bus terminal board the evening bus that takes them on the long journey home to the remote province of ‘I-San’ in North Eastern Thailand. Travelling under a full moon, the ramshackle bus sets off. A young woman near the front asks the driver to turn off the radio and something happens…Passengers begin to inexplicably act out the roles of a real primetime Thai soap opera. Voices are dubbed with those of popular Thai soap stars, the picture glows flat and the camera zooms in for lengthy, soap opera-style close-ups. Only a dense soundscape hints at whether we’re in a hotel bar or out by the pool. Only when the bus stops – at a petrol station, to change a flat tire or to allow commuters to board/alight – do the passengers momentarily snap back into their ‘real’ identities. However, nifty parallels emerge between the two stories, and the lines between fact and fiction begin to blur…
