Synopsis

From legendary director Federico Fellini comes Amarcord, winner of an Academy AwardÒ for Best Foreign Language Film in 1974 and perhaps Fellini’s most accessible film since La Dolce Vita. This multi-award winning film is a nostalgic recreation of life in a small province during the 1930s, the height of the fascist period in Italy and draws on Fellini’s own experiences.

Filled with colourful characters and outrageously funny moments, Amarcord presents a series of vignettes; expressions of what it was like to live under a dictatorship. The small town of Rimini is a vibrant blend of fantasy and reality. The central protagonist is a hormone driven, fourteen year old Titta (Bruno Zanin) who is obsessed with a beautiful local girl named Gradisca (Magali Noel). Titta’s sexual frustration is explored through suggestive camerawork. Fascists living in the town are satirised through Fellini’s depiction of their over-the-top parades and the exercises they perform in uniform. All of Fellini’s characters are created with both humour and humanity, making Amarcord an unforgettable cinematic experience.
